We are in Hefei

Today we flew to Hefei so we can explore the area Meng is from. The flight was uneventful, and driving from the airport to the Holiday Inn hotel showed us another side of China. This is more of what we were expecting. Our hotel is nice, and again we are surrounded by buildings with many big lite up signs and tonight there were fireworks right outside our hotel. We told Meng they were welcoming her back to the city! Tomorrow we will drive to the village we think Meng's foster family may have lived. From some previous research we know that the Hefei orphanage used to use families in this village to foster the children. We were told when we adopted Meng that she had lived in the country in a foster family for her first three years. She was taken back to the orphanage when she was three years old and lived there for a little over a year before we brought her home. She is such a loving and incredible girl that we know her foster family took loving care of her during those early years. The orphanage has told us there are no records showing the name of Meng's foster family, so we don't think we will be able to find them, but at least we can visit the village. Meng is very excited, and we will see how tomorrow goes. Wish us luck! Vicki
